The Unicorn Taxidermy.

It's absolutely no secret that I love unicorns. I love them as much as if they were real animals. I mean who's to say they never were, right? There's parts of the ocean that we haven't discovered, even with all the technology we have, so I can believe that there once were unicorns on this planet that educated people once thought was flat and that dragons and turtles and hell itself was keeping it afloat in space. Unicorns were mentioned in the bible, you know. Maybe there are unicorns at the bottom of the ocean...mermaids riding sea-unicorns. I'd like to believe that.

There is no question that I'd like to show my eternal adoration for this majestic creature...by having its head on my wall. A little morbid and odd, I know. I looked up unicorn taxidermies (faux of course, I would never intentionally hurt the poor dears) and they're pretty pricey. It's justifiable, I mean who wouldn't want one? But, because I'm poor and creative, I decided to make a taxidermy of my own.

I had this idea...an idea that I thought couldn't fail...boy was I wrong.

"Nighthawks" x Edward Hopper

My idea was to recreate the color schemes and placement of color in some of my favorite artworks using flowers. In retrospect, I think the notion I had was interesting but would take a lot more skill than I currently have. You know what they say: hindsight is 20/20.


My inital decision was to work with color schemes that I believed were easy on the eye and easy to recreate. With that to guide me, I chose two of my favorite paintings: ("The Son Of Man" by Rene Magritte and "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper) and dove right into what I later would find was grueling and time-consuming piece-work. I was so excited to make this a success.
